Welcome to my Blog!

Christiana Gaudet

Welcome to my personal blog.  Here you will find my musings, thoughts and observations, all inspired by my experiences as a fulltime professional tarot reader.

Tarot is the filter through which I process and understand the world.  Each card offers a philosophy, and a basis for comprehending the complexities of the human experience.

I was born in 1962, a minute after midnight, the day of the Cuban Missile Crisis.  “The Monster Mash” was the number one song in the country at the time of my birth.

When I was about to turn six, my mother asked me what I wanted for my birthday.  My answer surprised her.  I had seen a round glass paperweight in a shop window.  I knew if I had such I thing, I would be able to look within it, and see the future.

Mom tried to dissuade me; what would a six-year-old want with a paperweight?  No doll, game or puzzle could turn my head.

I did get my “crystal ball” for my birthday that year.  In fact, I still have it.  Two years later, Santa left “Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Cards” in my holiday stocking.

As a teen, I envisioned many different careers for myself; writer, psychologist, actor, minister.  Being a professional psychic wasn’t on the list because I didn’t know it could possibly be a career.

At nineteen, I learned about the I Ching, the Chinese method of divination.

I bought my first tarot deck at the age of 26.  At 33, I became a professional reader.

After years of being a professional tarotist, the thing I am most grateful for is this.  Every day I learn something new.  It may be about tarot, about spirituality, about the complexity of life on planet earth, or about myself.

So that’s what this blog is about.  It’s about the things I learn and think about each day I am lucky enough to be a tarot professional.

When I was a child, the thing I feared most was a boring life.  Tarot has made sure boredom is never a possibility.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog, Tarot Trends.  Please stop back often and leave a comment.  I am grateful to have you here.

The face of tarot is always changing, growing and evolving. Until Eden Gray’s books in the 1960s and 1970s, tarot was thought to be only the domain of occultists and those who possessed some secret mystical knowledge.

Eden Gray suggested that ordinary people could enjoy tarot and find compassion, answers and spirituality within it.

Mary K. Greer carried that torch forward, encouraging us to read for ourselves and find healing in the process.

Without modern tarotists like Gray and Greer tarot would not be what it is today.

People often ask me about my favorite tarot decks. The truth is, if it is a tarot deck I am likely to love it, no matter what. I love tarot unconditionally.

But, if you ask me which are my favorite reading decks, that’s a different story. The list of decks I like to use for professional reading is actually quite short.

Want to see them? Here they are.

Sunday, June 2nd was the “Creating a Better World” show on Christiana’s Psychic Café. You can watch it in archive on the Tarot Topics News Site.

As promised, here are the answers from all our participants.

The question each of them answered is “What is one thing we can do to create a better world?

Helene is a Pagan tarot card reader, writer and teacher. Her answer is “community.”

Many of you know about my weekly webcast, Christiana's Psychic Café.  Usually I interview guests and show video clips of local artists, dancers and musicians. I want my webcast to be a celebration of creativity and spirituality.

For my June 2nd show I am doing something a little different.

I have chosen a diverse group of people and am asking them all the same question.

"What is one thing we can do to create a better world?"

There has been a huge commotion caused by the fact that in 2004 Sylvia Browne told Amanda Berry’s late mother that her missing daughter was dead. In fact, as we now know, Amanda Berry was very much alive and being held captive.

Everyone- Pagans, psychics, professional skeptics and the news media are pouncing on Sylvia. Some are even blaming her for the unfortunate death of Louwanna Berry.

Professional psychics are worried that Sylvia’s error and the publicity thereof will be bad for business.

“The world is becoming such a scary place!”

“Things are so much worse than they used to be!”

“I wish we could go back to simpler times!”

“Things are just going to get worse and worse.”

These are things I hear all the time. I’m just not sure they are true.

What is true is that the worldwide web and the 24-hour news cycle keeps us up-to-date on all the terrible things that happen all over the world.

But are there more terrible things happening now than at any other time in history?

Probably not.

Beltane (May 1) conjures a lot of memories for me. Because it is a spring celebration and there are so many fun Beltane traditions it is typical to celebrate the holiday with other people, even if you tend to celebrate other turns of the Wheel more privately.

My first Beltane gathering was also the first time I acted as priestess for a large group. I didn’t priestess the Maypole, but I did perform a handfasting at the day-long event.

This gathering happened at Devil’s Hopyard in Connecticut in the 1980s. It was the first time I had ever seen a Maypole.

For our topic this time around our wrangler, Stephanie Arwen Lynch, wants us to talk about tarot traditions.

Beltane is a time of many traditions. The maypole, the maybowl, the belfire – these are all amongst my favorite things to do a Beltane.  This blog is illustrated with a maypole cake from a Beltane Tarot Circle gathering a few years ago. Beltane is a time to honor the traditions that hold us together as families and as a community.

But what are my favorite tarot traditions? My favorite tarot traditions are about decks, rather than reading techniques. I love to see how different traditions of tarot design emerge over the years. Tarot, like all art, is constantly evolving. It is a reflection of our ever-changing culture.

Most people, even those who don’t identify themselves as spiritual or religious, occasionally notice signs of good luck. Numbers, songs on the radio and animal sightings are all commonly identified as having some greater meaning; as being a sign of luck, or a sign from a Higher Power.

Most of us don’t see the face of a deity in our morning waffle, but most of us do have some particular omens that make us feel that we are protected, blessed and on the right track.
